About Russellville

A snapshot of the area — the facts buyers and sellers most often want when they are weighing a move.

Location & Highways

Russellville sits at the intersection of Interstate 40 and Highway 7 in Pope County, Arkansas. It is the county seat and the largest city in the Arkansas River Valley between Little Rock (about 75 miles east) and Fort Smith (about 85 miles west).

Arkansas Tech University

ATU is one of Russellville’s largest economic anchors, with roughly 8,000+ students enrolled across undergraduate and graduate programs. The campus and surrounding downtown form a walkable corridor of older housing stock, retail, and dining.

Lake Dardanelle

The 34,300-acre Lake Dardanelle reservoir borders the city to the west and south, with Lake Dardanelle State Park offering a fishing pier, swimming beach, boardwalk, and visitor center. Waterfront and water-view properties are part of the local market — buyers should always verify FEMA flood-zone designation per parcel.

Major Employers

The local economy spans education (ATU), energy (Arkansas Nuclear One), manufacturing (Tyson Foods, ConAgra), and healthcare (St. Mary’s Regional Health System), among others. Russellville is also a regional retail hub for the surrounding River Valley communities.

Housing Stock

Approximately 11,675 housing units citywide, with roughly two-thirds detached single-family homes. Inventory ranges from older homes near downtown and ATU, to newer subdivisions north and south of I-40, to rural parcels and waterfront properties on the city’s edges.

Outdoor Recreation

Beyond Lake Dardanelle, Russellville is within 30 to 45 minutes of three Arkansas state parks: Mount Nebo, Mount Magazine, and Petit Jean. The city itself maintains 23 municipal parks, including Bona Dea Trails & Sanctuary and Old Post Park.

A Few Things to Verify Before You Buy in Russellville

Flood zone designation. Parcels near Lake Dardanelle, the Illinois Bayou, and the Arkansas River may fall in FEMA flood zones. Always verify the specific property’s designation before making an offer.

School attendance zones. Russellville School District serves the city, but specific attendance zones are determined by property address. Verify directly with the district for any property you are considering.

Utilities, septic, and well. Rural parcels outside city limits may rely on private well, septic, or propane. Confirm utility status and any easements in writing as part of your due diligence.

HOA and deed restrictions. Some Russellville subdivisions carry HOA rules or deed restrictions on fencing, outbuildings, or exterior changes. Review any covenants in writing before closing.
